New Magic Carpet Surface Lift
This winter, a brand new Magic Carpet conveyor lift will service Pajarito’s Beginners Area, replacing the old Mighty Mite handle tow. A conveyor lift is an easy way for beginner skiers and snowboarders to ride up the mountain. The Magic Carpet will be 170 feet long, moving 800 more guests per hour than the old handle tow, for a total of 1,000 guests per hour. Find out more and see pics of the installation on the Ski Pajarito Blog.
Pajarito continues to improve its snowmaking infrastructure, with enhancements to the holding pond and the snowmelt collection system. A brand new pump has been fitted into the pond filling system. Pajarito continues to manage the ski area’s hazard trees that were damaged by the Las Conchas fires while improving future fire mitigation and forest re-vegetation.
New Unlimited Summer Uplift
This summer, Pajarito Mountain and Purgatory Resort offer a new mountain bike pass for just $149, valid at both Pajarito and Purgatory for unlimited uplifts with access to a variety of trails.
More Summer Fun
Later in 2017, Purgatory is building a 4,000 foot-long mountain coaster that will operate during future summer and winter seasons! We’re also adding a new summer tubing area AND a 50′ x 50′ airbag jump from a platform, scheduled to open summer 2017! The tubing and airbag will be located in the Columbine area.
Expanded Terrain & New Loading Zone
Purgatory is expanding its terrain with new intermediate and expert trails on the back- and front-sides of the mountain, and new gladed tree skiing terrain. The triple chairlift, Needles Lift 6, will offer a new mid-way loading zone that provides ski teams, terrain park fanatics, and skiers/riders who want to make laps on the front an easier way to access terrain.
New snowmaking equipment is being purchased to improve the resort’s ability to make snow and open the resort more efficiently, including additional pumping capacity, pipe, electric and additional energy efficient snow guns.
Colorado largest snowcat skiing operation with access to 35,000 acres will be improving its cabins on its snowcats.
The cat skiing operation will also provide a new portable shelter to be utilized during breaks and at lunchtime. Learn more about Purgatory Snowcat Adventures
Day Room Expansion/Renovation
Sipapu’s historic Lodge is undergoing renovations that include a new 2,141 square foot addition, which will house a new rental shop with upgraded ski and snowboard rental equipment, a new Ticket Office, retail space, and improved traffic flow with more gathering space, new bathrooms, and locker room.
Enhancements to Sipapu’s snowmaking system will help Sipapu continue to be the first ski area to open in New Mexico—a title the resort has held for 14 consecutive seasons.
Arizona Snowbowl Improvements
New Fixed Grip Quad
Snowbowl welcomes a new fixed grip quad with a convenient loading conveyor. The new lift will service the Hart Prairie beginner area, providing some of the best teaching terrain in the country.
New Base Area Dining
The new restaurant at Snowbowl’s base area offers 300 indoor seats, plus a patio complete with a fire pit—perfect for après ski! Located beside the Sunset Chairlift and near the Grand Canyon Express, enjoy ski-in, ski-out access to this fresh dining alternative. New slopeside bathrooms will be added, as well.
Grab a Rope
Hesperus will re-open the rope tow this winter.
Grab a Seat
Guests can enjoy additional indoor space provided by the new yurt.
Brighter Night Skiing
Additional lights will be installed at Hesperus—the Southwest’s largest night skiing operation—to increase the amount of terrain for night skiing.
Bigger Rental Shop
The rental shop will be expanded and reconfigured for a more customer-friendly experience, and the ski and snowboard rental equipment is being upgraded.
