Rocky Mountain Race Series

Pajarito Mountain Ski Area will host the first race of the 2018 Rocky Mountain Race Series, May 18th through the 20th. The Rocky Mountain Race Series is a five-stop a multi-discipline mountain bike series in Colorado and New Mexico. The series will include downhill, cross country, short track and dual slalom.  The series will include categories for juniors ages 8 to 18, in three-year age groups and 10-year age groups for adults, in both endurance and gravity disciplines. With all of these categories, there is something for every skill level of racer.

On Friday, May 18th will include all-day registration and cross-country pre-riding. From 12-4pm the downhill course will be open with lift access downhill riding. For a 10% discount buy your tickets online 48 hours in advance.

Saturday will feature Cross Country racing from 8am to 1pm with awards after. Specific race times will be announced the week of the individual events. Cross Country courses will feature varying lengths for different categories. 9am-1pm will be slalom and downhill practice with slalom racing and qualify from 2- 6pm with awards at 6:30.

Sunday will feature short track XC from 9-12am. Short track will be run as the “missing out” format, where the last racer across the line will be pulled from the racer each and every lap until it comes down to the last two racers.

Downhill pre-riding will start at 9am when the lifts open. Downhill racing will start at 12:15 and riders will go in the order of Jr.8/10, Jr.11/13, Jr. 14/16, Jr.17/18, Cat.3, Cat.2 Cat.1 and PRO. The downhill courses will be challenging for elite-level riders, and feature alternative lines or completely different courses for cat. 2,3 and junior riders. Awards will be directly after the last rider finishes.

With the recent growth of the region’s junior programs such as Durango Devo, SMBA, and the Colorado High School MTB League, the Rocky Mountain Race Series wants to foster the future of the sport and provide this growing category of racers a place to exhibit their training and racing skill sets alongside their friends and family.

The weekend of May 18th-20th will be the first also be the first weekend Pajarito Mountain will be open for weekend operations. Pajarito Mountain will be open every Saturday and Sunday through October 28th from 9am-3pm. See our hours of operation for more details and additional dates.
